 MCPF Research Symposium

The Morton Cure Paralysis Fund held its second annual research symposium featuring Dr. Wise Young on July 23, 2008.  It was a huge success!  Injured individuals and their family members as well as medical professionals in attendance enjoyed Dr. Young's discussion of the progress of SCI research around the world as well as his special focus on the human clinical trials being organized in China.  He then took Q&A from the audience.  Thank you to everyone who attended and especially to Dr. Young.  (MCPF plans to post the video of the symposium in the next couple weeks.  Stay tuned!)

 Working for a Miracle

BPeters300truegrey-2.jpgToday, I would like to tell you a story about a 15 year old girl from Milbank, SD.  She was a very active young girl.  She spent most of her time outdoors- - hiking, fishing, playing basketball, volleyball, and swimming.  Being active was her love.  Until one day, March 28th, 1990, this was all taken away from her.  As her friend drove her to a nearby town to run an errand, they were in a devastating car crash.  This car crash left this young girl paralyzed from the waist down with no hope of ever walking again.  She would never be the same...

I am a quadriplegic paralyzed from the neck down due to an automobile accident I was involved in at the age of 18.

I grew up in Dalhart Texas, a small town in the northern panhandle. I currently reside in Canyon, Texas and enjoy painting, watching football, spending time with my friends, family and surfing Internet.

I've been painting for about four years now. I have been interested in art ever since I was a child. I took several art courses in junior high and high school. I had never tried painting until I became paralyzed. I tried sketching with my mouth one day then realized I could achieve something with this talent...
